Capt. William C. Mattis

My father was Capt. William C. Mattis from Acampo CA. He was stationed at Clark in December of 1964 and then to Bien Hoa in early 1965. He was killed when his B-57 went down on March 11, 1965. If you know of any way to contact anyone who might have known him, I would appreciate it.

There is a dormitory named Mattis Hall in his honor at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX. They are tearing it down, but have given us the opportunity for his name to be used on a new building and of course we have enthusiastically agreed. My mom passed away about a year and a half ago, and now I am trying to get in touch with anyone who might have known him. He also had a friend from flight school (1953 at Williams) named Bronco Akelsich from San Bernadino, CA, but I think he was out of the USAF by the time Viet Nam heated up.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks. Charles Mattis (mattisc@acu.edu)
